Supporting artists and promoting arts and culture on the island of Puerto Rico.

The Lost Coast Colony is an application based, annual artist residence in the town of Quebradillas, located along the northwest coast of Puerto Rico within a 50-acre nature reserve of mountains, jungle, and ocean views. Ten international artists will be chosen to attend for two weeks each year. All types of artists will be considered. Four well-appointed apartments, totaling 10 bedrooms are onsite for artist accommodations ground transport to and from the airport on island, all meals, and art supplies.

The goals of LCAC are to stimulate the arts culture on the island of Puerto Rico by hosting art retreats and gallery openings, impact the local economy of Quebradillas by marketing our events as island tourism, and provide outreach programs to the community through visiting schools, hosting talks and workshops. communities, employ best environmental practices.

Future expansion of retreats for writing, music, print making, pottery, wood working, and other types of artistic expression are ongoing goals, as well as continuous cultivation of the property through creation of gardens, construction of buildings for a variety of artistic purposes.

ACCEPTING APPLICATIONS

The retreat begins in the first week in May of each year.  Submissions are open from June-September.  November 1st is the announcement to artists for following years’ attendance.  Applications shall include current resume, 10 high-resolution photos of recent works, written description of planned work during artist’s visit. 

ARTIST EXPECTATIONS

Upon arrival, artists are given time to settle in and relax before organizing, gathering supplies, and choosing their workspace.  Artists are free to work anywhere on the property and will be helped to set up their location.  LCAC also has a large event tent directly outside the residences with easels, equipped with worktables, power and water, and lounge seating for relaxing and socializing.  Artists will be able to work by day or night under the lighted event tent.  This communal style retreat requires everyone to help with chores such as kitchen detail/cleanup from time to time.  Artists will gather for dinner each night where a meal will be prepared for everyone.  Artists will participate in the annual exhibition by preparing works for sale at the plaza of Quebradillas Art Gallery.  Each attending artist will contribute one completed work to The Lost Coast Colony.  The percentage split is 70% to artists for all sold work in the plaza of Quebradillas.  Works will be on display for one month after the opening.   Upon closing, unsold work may be placed in galleries around the island per artist's request with 50/50 split, or shipped back to artist at cost.  All art will be cleared each fiscal year and all monies distributed in full at end of each fiscal year.  Fiscal Year is Feb 1 to January 31 each year.

  • Zulma Santiago Vega

    Zulma Santiago has over 30 years experience serving the arts through developing various projects on the island of Puerto Rico and internationally with steadfast dedication and commitment. She is the Recipient of (UNESCO) Picasso Gold Medal Award 2000, Member of the Rector’s Advisory Board, Museum of the Americas 2012-present, Member of the board of trustees Puerto Rican Endowment for the Humanities 2003-present, World Craft Council Board 2008-present, Cultural Promotion of Banamex Mexico 2010-2019, among others.

  • Kevin Rhodes

    Kevin Rhodes, entrepreneur/artist, founded Silkwood Inc., construction firm 1991 to current. He is a musician having toured with various bands, launched independent record label Winoca Records 2010- 2014. He formed and co- owned Wilmington eatery and gastro pub Palate Bottle Shop 2016-2021. Kevin conceived the idea of “Lost Coast Art Colony” artist retreat and owns property where the colony takes place. He currently resides on the island of Puerto Rico.

  • Juan LaSalle

    Juan LaSalle is real estate developer, healthcare provider and arts visionary. Juan has been instrumental in the refurbishment of Quebradillas, Puerto Rico. Currently, in association with the Department of Tourism of Puerto Rico, Juan is leading an hotel concept where guests stay in multiple restored buildings throughout Quebradillas, promoting sustainable tourism, preserving traditional architecture and promoting cultural exchange.

  • Katie Psichos

    Katie Psichos is a Manager of Enterprise Delivery for nCino inc. based out of Wilmington, NC. Katie has been in the Fin Tech space for over a decade and finance for the ten years prior. Katie has worked with financial institutions of all sizes including top 10 US banks. She holds a BA from the University of North Carolina in Wilmington and holds numerous licenses and certifications including; Treasury Management, Commercial Banking, Elementary Education, Knowledge- Centered Service Fundamentals, NC Real Estate Broker, Salesforce Certified Administrator & Salesforce Certified Platform App Builder.
